About BBBS - What We Do Big Brothers
- Big Sisters agencies provide friendship, leadership, and guidance to
children and youth from primarily single parent families. This is done
by matching a carefully screened adult volunteer with a child in
need of some extra friendship and support. Think back to when you were a child. Think about all the special adults in your life back then. Who was the person, aside from your immediate family, who brought a little extra joy, a little extra magic, into your life? A neighbor, family friend, favorite teacher or coach? As
a volunteer Big Brother, Big Sister or Big Couple, you can have fun
while helping to make a difference in a young person's life. It doesn't take any special training to be a Big
Brother or Big Sister. All it takes is a sense of caring, a sincere
interest in the well-being of a child, and a good sense of fun! We are
looking for caring adults who can make themselves
available for a few hours each week to spend time with your Little
Brother or Sister doing whatever activities you both enjoy--going to
the library or the movies, visiting a museum, bike riding, swimming,
hiking, watching a baseball or hockey game, taking a walk, or just
hanging out. Your activities are limited only by your imagination! The
Big Brothers-Big Sisters Program is all about friendship between adult
volunteers and children. Both volunteers and children benefit from the program. Little Brothers and Sisters know that there's a trusted friend they can count on as they grow up.
